personal views on movies... and some other things

"Yesterday", a film not-quite-about The Beatles

If you live on this planet and you're not a person who has been hidden in a cave for the past 50 years, you must at least be familiar with some of The Beatles songs. They are, after all, one of those bands who were active only for a handful of years but have been truly influencing our world since the 60s.
So this year, Academy Award winning director Danny Boyle [Slumdog Millionaire (2008), Trainspotting (1996), 127 Hours (2010)] brings us the strangest film based on Beatles songs: Yesterday. We have, along the years, seen some films that were inspired by The Beatles (such as the marvellous Across the Universe (2007), a musical which tells its story through Beatles songs, or Nowhere Boy (2009), a biopic of John Lennon's teenage life) but Yesterday, which is written by comedy genius, Richard Curtis [Love Actually... (2003), About Time (2013), Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)] takes a peculiar turn and introduces us to a world where nobody -except our protagonist, Jack (Himesh Patel), has even heard of The Beatles
When Jack plays Yesterday to his friends and realises the surprising truth, a whole world opens up in front of him, ready to be conquered. Can he really pretend to have written all these marvellous songs and take advantage of the success that they're sure to have? And what will happen if, for some unbeknownst reason, people's memories catch up?
Yesterday comes out this June and seems extremely entertaining. Here's the trailer (but be warned! After watching it all you will want to listen to is Beatles songs!):
