Striking Scores Vol. 4

Continuing the tradition of reminiscing some of the most characteristic scores in cinema history (and not only!) today we are inspired by Hallowe'en, the celebration which constitutes a constant source of inspiration and creativity for the 7th art. Many are the films which have used the celebration of the dead as their main topic or their main atmospheric background; they might usually be horror films but every now and then a lighter type of movie comes to the spotlight and makes a big impact.
So, this time we remember The Nightmare Before Christmas, a film associated with (but not made by) Tim Burton. It is a story set in the town of Halloween where the king of Halloween, Jack Skellington has grown tired of the monotony of dressing up and scaring people. So, he decides (after a visit to Christmas Land) to steal Christmas and be in charge of that merry celebration instead. The film is a delightful stop-motion animated feature, which can fall both into the Halloween as well as the Christmas films category. However, it would never be as iconic as it is without Danny Elfman's superb score which makes it possibly one of the best musicals out there.
Thus, today we will revisit two of Elfman's beautiful songs; different in style yet both equally magnificent. Enjoy.

This is Halloween
