After a beautiful first season which faithfully covered the first book of the His Dark Materials trilogy (as well as some small parts of future books), the time has come to delve into the second season which appears more epic and grand than we - the loyal book readers - would have ever pictured in our heads. You cannot imagine how great it is to finally get to see the second book (The Subtle Knife) of such a beloved series come to life at last, after so many years of patiently waiting for a proper adaptation.
Without getting into spoiler territory for the people who do not really know how much the Dark Materials world is starting to open up, all we can say is that the second series starts with Lyra (Dafne Keen) being devastated by her best friend's murder and deciding to follow Lord Asriel into the unknown, find out what Dust is and avenge her friend. Little does she know however, that where she is heading to, she is going to meet Will (Amir Wilson) the boy escaping from our world and whom we've caught a few glimpses of during the first season. Together, they will understand that their destinies are interwined and that there are some things that they have to do in order to stop the war which has started to blow up all around them. But they are not the only ones running against time.
Series two will come to BBC as well as HBO on November 16 and it stars Dafne Keen, Amir Wilson, Ruth Wilson, Andrew Scott, Will Keen, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ruta Gedmintas, Helen McCrory, Terence Stamp, Jade Anouka and Simone Kirby.
