The Academy Awards nominations have just been announced and there were a few surprises among the nominees. First of all, the question about the number of Best Picture nominees has been answered and they are 9. In the Best Actress category, Tilda Swinton for We Need to Talk About Kevin wasn't offered a nomination giving her place to Rooney Mara from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. As for the Best Actor category, Gary Oldman was given a nomination for his great work in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Surprises can also be found in the category of Best Director as Terrence Mallick was the fifth nominee for his unique film The Tree of Life. But here are all the nominees:
