Video games are easily misjudged as kids' stuff. What many gamers around the world can tell you, however, is that a game is not just a way to pass your free time, and it definitely isn't a loser's hobby. Games are art.
And how could they not be? When a game is good, it's really good and it combines some amazing elements: a thrilling story, breathtaking graphics, amazing scenery, really good voice actors and of course unforgettable music. Aah, the music. I recently heard the main theme of The Last of Us, a game that will be released in a month's time and saw that it is written by none other that Babel and Brokeback Mountain's composer, Gustavo Santaolalla. When such big names get involved in the music department of a video game, you know that it is not a small deal.
So, let's take a look at some of the greatest music themes (many of these still give me goosebumps) that have accompanied gamers as they try to defeat monsters, capture dragons, survive wars and discover secrets in worlds that are entirely made of pixels. After all this, who can dare say that video games are not art?
