personal views on movies... and some other things

Things I learned from Comic Con 2011

For those who don't know, Comic Con is one of the largest comic book and popular arts conventions in the world. It is held every July in San Diego and thank God for the fine people who attend the various panels and then they upload their videos on youtube. Without them, the rest of the world wouldn't even imagine what's going on there. Naturally, I cannot attend this convention, seeing as I live in Greece, so I rely on those amazing youtubers. Now, after many hours of watching loads of videos from the panels, here is what we've found out:

  • Steven Spielberg announced that Jurassic Park 4 is in the works and a writer is currently working on a story. Jurassic Park (1993) is one of my all-time favourite films so this is exciting news. Let's just hope that the 4th movie, which will be ready in 2 to 3 years time, won't be anything like the 2nd and 3rd films of the trilogy.
  • Peter Jackson will be returning to horror movies. After his great success with tremendously huge films, this return will be really interesting.
  • Despite recent rumours, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer will be graduating at the end of the 3rd season but this doesn't mean that they'll be leaving Glee.
  • A clip was shown from the upcoming second season of the Walking Dead. It looks pretty tense. Link
  • The third season of Glee will be devided thematically into two semesters. During the first semester, they're going to focus more on character development. As for the first episode, we're going to find out who's a junior and who's a senior. It was revealed during the panel that Jenna Ushkowitz is a junior.
  • Andy Serkis is a really funny guy. During the interview of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson he pretended to be one of the fans who wanted to ask questions.
  • For the fans of Starkid (the minds behind A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel - if you haven't watched them and you consider yourself a Harry Potter fan, just search them on youtube -) both Joey Richter (who plays Ron) and Darren Criss (who plays Harry and also Klaine from Glee) confirmed that they have work to do. Richter specifically said that they have an incredible idea for a third musical but they need to program their work according to Criss' schedule.
  • If you don't know Starkid, don't worry. The writers of Glee didn't seem to know it either when they were asked if they would do a crossover on the show.
  • Nathan Fillion (Serenity [2005], Firefly [2002], Castle[2009-..]) is the king of comic con!!! Hands down.
  • As for the Vampire Diaries, everyone has to stop asking the actors to pick teams. For those of you who don't know, this show is about a high school girl, Elena (Nina Dobrev) who meets a handsome guy, Stefan (Paul Wesley) who is a vampire and who has an also handsome brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder). The fans are always (and by always, I mean every time) asking the actors whom of the two brothers they would choose. So, just quit asking. The actors are tired of it, we are tired of it. Just watch the show. In anyway, the panel had a funny way of skipping to answer this time. Watch the link at 5:40 if you're interested.
  • Harry Potter will never end. The Harry Potter Fandom Panel showed exactly that. The books might be over, the films might be over but the most active fans have done a lot of things in the name of Harry Potter (see The Harry Potter Alliance for example) and they are not going to stop in the immediate future. And with the launch of Pottermore by J.K. Rowling herself, it is clear that there is much more to be expected. Thank God.
  • During the Game of Thrones panel, in response to the question "How would you like to end this story?" Peter Dinklage, the actor who just got nominated for an Emmy® for the role of Tyrion Lannister, gave the most intriguing answer: "[with a..] Dance Number". That would be..different. Check it out approximately at 1:47.
  • During the Castle panel, Nathan Fillion was asked about his movie-making plans. After a lot of cheers and shouts about a certain Nathan Drake (the protagonist of the PS3's Uncharted games, [for your information, the games are being adapted to the big screen and there is a huge internet campaign by both the fans of the game and Nathan Fillion himself, for the title role]), Fillion said smiling: "Castle keeps me very very busy. As far as Uncharted goes, if any of you ran into that poor bastard of a director please, be kind. Don't insist. I don't want to get soured on the poor man. Yes, I would love to do Uncharted. But every one of us has a little Indiana Jones inside."                   Just give this man the role!!! See the whole quote here at approximately 9:00 minutes in.
