Memorable Movie Scenes No. 15

Happy new year, everybody! As you probably know, every once in a while we reintroduce some movie scenes that have made a special impact either personally or to cinema itself. There are scenes that have touched and moved us in inexplicable ways, or scenes which have been so spot-on and true that you might think about them for a long time afterwards. There are also those which have been jaw-droppingly directed and perfectly written that deserve a place in eternity. One such scene -and the first one that we present while being so recent- is one from the current sensation La La Land
La La Land is the third feature film by Damien Chazelle (director of 2014's beyond excellent Whiplash) which stars Emma Stone [Easy A (2010), The Help (2011)] and Ryan Gosling [Drive (2011), The Notebook (2004)]. It is a modern musical which tells the story of Mia, an actress who struggles to make it in Hollywood, Sebastian, an aspiring jazz pianist who wants to open a jazz bar, and their relationship as they both try to help each other while they fall in love in the city of stars.
The scene we are going to visit today is not a spoilery one, so if you haven't yet watched the film which is expected to grab all the awards (starting tonight with the Golden Globes), feel free to enjoy the clip. The scene includes one of the few songs that can be found in the movie, called City of Stars (despite it being a musical, La La Land does not feature a lot of songs); it is performed by both protagonists in two different points in the story. Incidentally, it was the song that stuck with me for days after I had watched the film, and if you've experienced Chazelle's new creation you know what it means and why it is such a moving moment for the characters.

La La Land is nominated for 7 Golden Globes and our review of it is coming soon.
