Whiplash: this is where it all started

Whiplash is one of the best films of 2014 and also number 1 of my personal top 10. It stars Miles Teller as an aspiring young drummer and J.K. Simmons as his brutal and violent teacher. But before the rave reviews from both audiences and critics and before its award wins (it has won 70 awards so far including the Grand Jury prize and the Audience Award at Sundance and also one Golden Globe and three Academy Awards for Best Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Supporting Actor for Simmons), Whiplash was just a short film that its director Damien Chazelle had shot back in 2013 to help him get financing and make the real thing.
The short film also won an award in Sundance, the Short Film Grand Jury Prize and it is a scene that we also see in the full feature: the first rehearsal of the jazz band. Its main difference -besides the apparent lack of budget- is that the protagonist is another actor, Johnny Simmons. However, J.K. Simmons is there from the very beginning and he gives an equally terrific performance proving that the Oscar was his from the start.
If you've enjoyed Whiplash, below is the short film that started it all. Have a look:
