personal views on movies... and some other things

The trailer for the new Yorgos Lanthimos movie "The Lobster" has arrived

Remember Dogtooth (2009)? That controversial, disturbing greek movie that shocked audiences and even earned an Oscar Nomination for Best Foreign Film that year? Well, Yorgos Lanthimos, the acclaimed director of Dogtooth, after having made a not so successful movie called Alps returns this year with a great cast and a really strange story that won him the Jury Prize at 2015's Cannes Festival this past May.

The Lobster is set in a dystopian near future, when nobody is allowed to be single. For this reason, any single person is taken to The Hotel and is given forty-five days to find a romantic partner. If they are unsuccessful they are turned into an animal of their choice and they are sent to the woods.
So, our story follows David (Colin Farrell) who has to go through this procedure after being in a relationship for 12 years. His animal of choice, in case he doesn't succeed is a lobster. David, feeling desperate, decides to escape and during his effort he meets and falls in love with a woman - something that is completely against the rules. Intriguing, right?

The film stars Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, John C. Reilly, Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux and Angeliki Papoulia

The trailer that was released yesterday seems quite funny, witty and really interesting. Let's see what Lanthimos has in store for us this year.
