The 4 Science Fiction Films of 2011

Being a science-fiction junkie, in the beginning of a new year I am always looking for the films that have something to do with space or the future or anything that could be concidered "science-fiction". And although the past few years showed almost nothing interesting in this particular field, with Star Trek (2009) and Pandorum (2009) being great exceptions, 2011 sure looks promising! Here are four science fiction films, the trailers of which had me in the edge of my seat. Hit the jump for more.

1. Source Code
Duncan Jones, the director of the wonderful one-man-show called Moon presents his next full length feature starring Jake Gyllenhaal, in the role of a soldier who wakes up in the body of a man who died in a train bombing. His mission is to find the bomber and for this he must relive as many times as needed the last 8 minutes of the man's life. With a feeling of Deja Vu (2006) and something that reminds me of Twelve Monkeys (1995), I honestly can't wait!

2. Apollo 18
Where are these films? We haven't seen anything about a mission to space since the outrageous Armageddon (1998). This one presents in documentary-style the truth behind the cancelled Apollo 18 mission to the moon which was cancelled by Nasa. It looks interesting and all we can do is wait and see.

3. Cowboys & Aliens
The title might be hilarious but the name of the man in the director's chair isn't. Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man 1 and 2 brings Daniel Graig and Harrison Ford together in the story of a speceship which lands in Arizona in 1873 in order to take over the earth. Wild West and Spaceships? Bring it on!

4. Battle: Los Angeles
The trailer says it all. It might have a Roland Emmerich feeling but the master of the disaster films is not behind this one. Jonathan Liebesman the director of The Killing Room (2009) is though. And it looks like one hell of an adventure. We'll see.
