Memorable Movie Scenes No 10

Every once in a while, I revisit some scenes from older or modern movies that have stuck with me over the years due to their excellency, their wit, their amazing service to each movie or the moral which they try to teach us.
This time we'll remember a scene from The Producers (2005) a musical adaptation of the Broadway adaptation of the original 1967 movie. Allow me to explain to you as quickly as possible:

The one and only Mel Brooks, writer, director and actor in many memorable comedies wrote and directed the original The Producers movie in 1967. The film starred Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder, it was a success and it also won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. It is the story of a Broadway producer, Max Bialystock and his wanna-be-producer accountant, Leo Bloom who decide that if they want to make a lot of money, they have to produce a play that will most surely flop. So they try to find the worst script, the worst director and the worst actors to make their plan work. But naturally, this proves to be a crazy ride and it doesn't end like it should.

Mel Brooks reportedly intented for it to be a musical on Broadway and not a film. So many years later Brooks and Thomas Meehan adapted it for the stage, added songs written by Brooks himself and cast Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. The play opened in 2001 and ran for 2,502 performances. So, it was time for the play to be adapted to the big screen again. The film starred the same stage actors, plus Uma Thurman in the role of Ulla. And it was great!

So, now we revisit one of the final numbers in this last adaptation. It is the song "Betrayed" that Bialystock (Nathan Lanesings when his scheme has gone all wrong. In the song he repeats lines from the whole musical and it is amazing to see. I believe that this number earns a great round of applause when it is performed live as it is quite difficult and breathtaking. It contains a lot of spoilers and it is more easily understood if you've seen the movie but it is a fun watch nonetheless. Enjoy!

Now, go watch the films.
