personal views on movies... and some other things

The first "The Martian" promo video is here!

I love it so much when the marketing for a film is smart and witty and Ridley Scott's adaptation of The Martian seems to be following this great route. But let's go back to the beginning as this is the first time that we mention this  particular project.

The Martian is the first novel by author Andy Weir who started writing it in 2009 trying to remain true to each and every technological, astronomic and scientific detail. He then self-published it back in 2011 but later a publishing company bought the rights and re-published it in 2014 when it got into the New York Times's Best Seller List. Talk about unexpected success, hah?
For your information and in case you are an avid reader as well as a movie fan - and if you also enjoy science fiction as I do- you should read this novel. I devoured it in something more than a day and I honestly couldn't put it down as it is extremely exciting and nail-biting. Go to your nearest bookshop or library now!

The Martian is the story of Mark Watney, a botanist and mechanical engineer who is a member of the Ares 3, the third manned mission to Mars. Watney's life is changed forever when after a storm on the surface of Mars and because of a misunderstanding among the crew, he is left behind and must improvise to survive on the aggressive environment of the red planet.

It was logical and only a matter of time before Hollywood turned this thrilling book into a movie and who would be better to sit on the director's chair that Ridley Scott, director of Alien (1979),  Blade Runner (1982) and Prometheus (2012)
And even though the film comes out on November 26th and the first trailer hasn't even arrived, a first promo video was released today (on Ares 's own channel, thank you very much) and features the astronauts of the Ares 3 who introduce themselves on camera. It seems that the marketing is strong with this one, as this is possibly the first of many videos that'll follow and will most likely present the events aboard the spaceship in 'real time' as we're getting closer to the release of the film. Wouldn't this be a great idea?

Here is your first look on The Martian
