The 20th Athens International Film Festival is here!

It's on, bitches! Well, excuse the language, but I am excited -and I've been re-watching some Breaking Bad lately so there you have it-! Believe it or not, it's been a year since the last time that I covered the Athens International Film Festival (AIFF from now on). How quickly time flies! 
      The festival celebrates its 20th anniversary featuring more than 100 films from all over the world in the 12 days of its duration! As it happens every year, the "Golden Athena" will be awarded to the Best Film and to the Best Documentary. Awards for Best Directing, Best Screenplay, Best Breakthrough Directing, Best Breakthrough Performance by an Actor and an Actress will also be given. 
      This year the festival will feature films from all the corners of the world such as the British Starred Up by the always interesting director David Mackenzie (Perfect Sense, Young Adam), the Spanish 10,000 km, the Argentinian Ciencas Naturales and Relatos Salvajes a film produced by Pedro Almodovar, the Italian La Mafia Uccide Solo L'EstateLe Meraviglie and the film that won the Italian Corporation Award Il Capitale Umano, the Belgian Alleluia about the true story of the american "Honeymoon Killers", the Irish What If starring Daniel Radcliffe and The Canal, the American The Drop, one of James Gandolfini's last films, The Mend with an unforgettable Josh Lucas, the highly original film The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby told in two films: one from the man's (James McAvoy) point of view and one from the woman's (Jessica Chastain), the Sundance Film Festival Audience Award Winner Whiplash about a young musician who tries to make it as a jazz drummer and of course the highly anticipated new film by David Fincher Gone Girl starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike
       The festival also includes a tribute to the great american director Robert Altman and to many Australian Films such as The Babadook and The Infinite Man. Many Greek films will also be presented, such as Electra by Petros Sevastikoglou, Η Επέλαση των Απάτσι by Yannis Soldatos and Για Πάντα by Margarita Manda. Finally documentaries such as Dinosaur 13 about the discovery of the largest T-Rex fossil ever found, Life Itself about the late well-known film critic Roger Ebert, Beautiful Noise about the shoegaze movement in music and Pulp: A Film about Life, Death and Supermarkets the documentary dedicated to the famous band PULP
