Memorable Movie Scenes No. 14

It is Friday afternoon and what a better way to spend your quiet time before the end of the working week than watch a true classic. Today we are going to remember one of Robin Williams' most notable and unforgettable roles, that of Adrian Cronauer, an unconventional dj who is assigned to the U.S. Armed Services Radio Station in Vietnam and fills the air waves with humour, jokes, impersonations, sarcasm but also raw emotions and questions about whether the way the army chooses to work is moral and just. We are talking of course, about Barry Levinson's Good Morning, Vietnam (1987).
Cronauer is a dj who comes to Vietnam to boost the troops' morale and to bring a funny character to the news. He is a man of humour and sarcasm, something that doesn't agree with the station's management despite his popularity with the soldiers. Cronauer wants to make fun of the news, prefers to live quietly in a country that's at war and even to meet girls but he soon realises that war is everywhere. Not just in the battlefields and in the city streets but also within the army administration. He tries to stand his ground against his superiors who do not appreciate his humour and and despite his easy-going character, he is affected by the death that surrounds him and fights not to give in to the censorship of the news.
Williams is well-known for his sentimental performances in multilayered roles and his classic portrayal in Good Morning, Vietnam is not an exception. The scene we are going to revisit is one of the most emotional moments in the film. It shows the atrocities of war accompanied by Louis Armstrong's "It's A Wonderful World". Enjoy.
